Kurv Studios kindly offered to send me a couple of their LightWave training DVDs to review, more important is that they where about modeling cars!

I've been modeling cars for some years now and over this time I've seen quite a few training videos, some have been pretty good and others have been not so good. Lets see how these turn out! The DVD auto starts and presents you with a web browser based navigation menu. From this menu you can choose from any of the multiple sections that have been provided for you, these are clearly labeled and allow you to watch and learn in small 5- 20 min steps.

The first disc in this two part series takes you all the way through from the basics to the finalization of all the larger parts/panels of the vehicle. This includes sections on showing you all the common tools that you will be using, laying out the splines to define the vehicles shape and size, patching using the splines and also the procedures used to define the edges of the panels.

The second disc then follows on in the same manor and completes all the detailing of the vehicle, the lights, the wheels and tires, the dashboard, the seats and a whole lot more!

Each of these steps are presented in a clear concise manner, nothing is rushed, nothing is over looked and everything is explained. I was also pleased to see that even the errors that Gerald made where clearly explained, how it occurred, why it occurred and how to put it right.

These DVDs offer something to people at every level of modeling skill:

Beginner: lots of information, probably too much to learn in one sitting, but you can easily watch each section over and over until you are up to speed. This is a full modeling tutorial, taking you from nothing to a finished vehicle and everything in-between.

Intermediate: For those of you who know the basics this will teach you some more of the advanced process's, procedures, work flows and layouts.

Advanced: For those of you who know it all, this will refresh your memories of tools and methods that you once new, but had forgotten all about!

The quality of the video on the DVDs is excellent throughout, however sometimes the audio sounds a little disjointed as if Gerald has turned his head away from the mic. Also included on the discs is all of the content, model, scenes and reference.

Kurv Studios have set the bar high with this set of DVD tutorials one that is going to take a lot of hard work to beat. These are definitely a great addition to anyone's collection from the beginner to the more advanced modeler. I know that they have renewed and refreshed the way that I now look at my modeling.
