Default Hard surface modeling - advanced creases

Hi,

I'm trying to figure out the following. How would you create an octagonal crease on a curved surface without breaking that curved surface? It's a riddle to me. It just can't be the only solution is NURBS.

The image attached shows some ideas.

thx,

Vint

You want an octagon but I'm already counting 10 sides instead of eight or is there something I'm missing?
