I'd say Hydraulics would be fine provided they're driven by a damn great steam pump!

who'se to say they aren't steam power rams? didnt the original locomotives use steam rams?, this seems really interesting hopefully ill produce something worth showing for this competition

Where u found that? I found only one steam pump definition and it says that "Rotary Steam pump" is "Rotary Steam Engine" and it use steam pressure to move

Not exact, but quite easy to adopt:
http://cedesign.net/steam/radial.htm

Remember a pump requires a motor, so you use a steam motor to drive the pump.

Not that I have a hope of competing in this exercise, but I was inspired to make the Hydraulic Ram (see jpeg) in Hexagon and Carrara5Pro. Looking forward to the REAL results from he experts.

Adam, you are right I would love too. I have a concept in mind but just don't think I have the time at the moment. If I could figure out a way to make it fit into my workload I would do it.
