Default Celebrity Head: schdeffan : Robbie Williams

Hi,

I'm all new to this forum and the organic modeling stuff and just signed up to join this competition. Well I was trying to model another head for some time now and failed quite badly at it so I needed a break from that and as the other head was female I had to promise my girlfriend to do Robbie for her, so I took the opportunity now. I really hope to get lots of feedback to learn from...

So here's what I've got after about 3 hrs:

Struggeling with the lips now, never realised they were so thin. Nose is way off atm.

Here's the refs I use atm, but I really need to find better ones but they are quite hard to find unexpectedly.

Some updates. Worked on lips and chin and already a bit on the eyes.

Doing some eyeballs next to get the eyelids right.

Be careful with your reference material though mate, that pic on the left has obviously been Photoshoped, as Williams is one UUUUUGLEEEEE looking fella, as you can see from the slightly more true to life pic on the right. What you've done so far already looks like him though, nicely done

Thanks, Angelstein.

Well my girfriend wouldn't agree with you . It simply was the best front view I could find for the moment. I think he is much younger and slimmer on that pic and yes it may be shopped. But to get basic shapes it was ok enough.

I searched the web for an hour today. You simply can't find a lot of hi res pics of him. If someone has a hint where to find some that would be very much appreciated.

@scibir_jackal: Thanks, there are some good pics.

So another update for today:

Improved eyes and chin area. 246 faces. Plan is to subdivide once or twice to add details – well he's quite young so not too many wrinkels yet.

Ear will be next. I'll base the modeling on this tut.

Just wanted to say that my modeling apporach is based on the great video tut by shadowdragon. Never used the "smooth" button before watching that. Really recommended for all beginners. You'll find it in the tutorial forum's sticky too.

The part I'm struggling most with atm is were the eyelids meet and the transition of that part to the back of the head, it's kind of hard to see for me on pics sometimes.

So, last update for today:

Tweaked the transition from nose to cheeks and started on the ear. And pulled some verts here and there.

Here's a closeup of the ear.

Its the second ear I ever did. It's still quite low poly but the basic shape is there. I plan to leave it like that until I subdivide the model and add details then using the new faces. I could add details now by cutting new edgeloops but I think it'll get too dense after subdivision, creating lots of unecessary faces.

Mahlzeit,

got the skull finished but I’m not quite sure with the shape yet. Where the ear is attached it’s a bit messy atm. But overall I’m quite satisfied with it. It’s a bit bumpy in some places.

First: Congrats to Italy. Deserved it after all the hassle going on in the late minutes.

So my entry seems to be so amazing no ones trying to crit? Sorry, I really need feedback as I'm a total beginner in this.

Got some updates. Finally found a good ref for the head shape.

I also found a facial expression I'm going to do:

It adds some details to the face.

Here's a try at it (about 30 minutes)

Still not subdivided.

Further plan is:
* A bit of tweaking here and there
* Teeth and tongue
* Expression (trying shape keys and IPO drivers there for the first time no experience in that)
* Subdivide
* Add details.

Thanks for watching.

Looking good, especially your edgeflow. The expression is also looking very good.

A few crits:

In the side view, his lower lip is protruding too much, push the upper lip forward a bit ( he is probablly smirking in the referance image, the idiot)

The eye are needs some work, look closely at your referances to see whats missing.

The expression is looking good, just deepen all the folds a bit.

Keep it up!
